Treatments for Excessive Sweating
Hyperhidrosis is a condition characterized by sweating in amounts greater than those required to regulate body temperature.
At Clinic Olymp, excessive sweating can be treated with botulinum toxin (commonly known as Botox), which is injected into specific areas of the body. By temporarily blocking the nerve signals that activate sweat glands, the treatment helps reduce excessive sweating.
The procedure begins with an assessment by our doctor, who determines the appropriate dosage and injection sites. A topical anesthetic cream may be applied to improve comfort, after which botulinum toxin is injected just beneath the skin using a fine needle.
The treatment generally requires minimal recovery time. Patients are advised to avoid applying cosmetic products, including deodorants, to the treated area for 24 hours, or as directed by their doctor.
Treatment for Excessive Sweating with Botox
One of the main advantages of botulinum toxin treatment for hyperhidrosis is its ability to reduce excessive sweating through a minimally invasive procedure.
Botulinum toxin temporarily blocks the release of acetylcholine, a chemical messenger involved in activating sweat glands. As a result, sweat production in the treated area decreases.
The effects are not permanent and typically last between 3 and 9 months, depending on the treated area and individual response. Repeat treatments may be recommended to maintain the results.
Preparation: How Should You Prepare for Treatment?
Before scheduling your appointment, it is important to discuss your medical history, current health, and treatment expectations with our medical team.
During the consultation, your doctor will answer your questions and recommend an appropriate treatment plan. A specialized test may also be performed before treatment to identify the areas of excessive sweating and determine the most suitable injection sites.

Procedure: Quick and Minimally Invasive
Treatment of the underarm area typically takes up to 20 minutes.
A topical anesthetic cream may be applied, followed by approximately 15 minutes for the anesthetic to take effect. The area is then thoroughly cleaned with sterile gauze and saline before the Botox injections begin.
Botulinum toxin can also be used to treat excessive sweating in other areas, including the face, palms, and soles of the feet, depending on the medical indication.
The doctor administers a series of small injections using a fine needle to distribute the product throughout the targeted area. The number and placement of injections depend on the treatment area and individual needs.
Most patients can return home immediately after the procedure.
Recovery and Precautions
Recovery is generally brief, and most patients can resume their usual activities within a few hours.
Avoid applying deodorants or other cosmetic products to the treated area for 24 hours, or according to your doctor’s instructions. Follow any additional aftercare recommendations provided by your medical team.
Temporary tenderness, redness, bruising, or swelling may occur at the injection sites. Although uncommon, more significant adverse effects are possible.
Inform your doctor about any neuromuscular conditions, allergies, medications, or previous reactions to botulinum toxin. Treatment is generally avoided during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
Seek medical advice promptly if you experience unexpected or worsening symptoms after treatment.
