More About Double Chin Correction
Regardless of how much effort we put into losing weight, a double chin can sometimes remain a persistent concern. Excess fat beneath the chin, combined with loose skin and a loss of the natural jawline and neck contour, can make the lower face appear less defined.
For this reason, many patients consider a relatively short and precise surgical procedure to improve the appearance of the area beneath the chin. Double chin correction may be performed using liposuction alone or in combination with additional skin-tightening procedures.
Preparation: What You Need to Know
The aim of our initial free consultation is to discuss the available treatment options, answer your questions and provide all the information you need to make an informed decision.
During the examination, the surgeon assesses skin elasticity, the amount and distribution of excess fat beneath the chin, and the overall contour of the neck. Based on these findings, the appropriate scope of treatment is determined.
Surgical Technique: How Is a Double Chin Corrected?
Double chin correction may be performed under total intravenous anaesthesia (TIVA), depending on the procedure and the patient’s individual needs.
The most suitable technique is selected according to the clinical findings, your goals and expectations, and your age. In some cases, liposuction alone is sufficient to remove excess fat and improve the contour beneath the chin.
In other cases, more extensive surgery may be required. This can include additional procedures to tighten loose skin across the neck or in specific areas where greater definition is needed.
While living and working in Germany, Dr Dimitrije Panfilov performed a double chin liposuction procedure on himself in front of RTL television cameras to demonstrate the technique. Double chin liposuction is generally considered less invasive than more extensive neck surgery, although it still carries potential risks and requires appropriate medical assessment.
Recovery and Precautions
Following double chin liposuction, many patients can return home a few hours after the procedure, provided their condition is stable and the medical team considers discharge appropriate.
More extensive procedures may require an overnight stay at the clinic for observation and postoperative care.
After surgery, wearing a specialised compression garment or chin strap for approximately one to two weeks may be recommended to support the treated area and help optimise healing. The exact duration depends on the procedure performed and your surgeon’s instructions.
Swelling, bruising and temporary discomfort may occur during recovery. Following your surgeon’s postoperative instructions and attending follow-up appointments are important for achieving the best possible outcome.
