(Septo)rhinoplasty
The nose is a truly remarkable organ: its bridge is at the front, its tip points downward, its root is at the top, and its wings are positioned on either side. The attractiveness of the face largely depends on the harmony and proportions of the nose.
During a free initial consultation, the surgeon gains an understanding of your motivation for undergoing surgery, examines the structure of your nose and face, and uses this information to make an accurate assessment and develop an individual surgical plan.
Depending on a person’s height and whether their face is round or elongated, the optimal nose length generally ranges from 4.8 to 5.8 centimetres. A straight nose is traditionally considered a desirable masculine feature, while a slightly curved, concave nose is often associated with feminine facial proportions. However, the ideal nose is one that harmonises naturally with your individual facial features.
Impaired nasal function, often caused by a deviated septum or similar conditions, is another common reason for undergoing this procedure. Rhinoplasty requires not only surgical expertise but also precision, careful judgement and a balanced approach.
Interestingly, nasal surgery dates back thousands of years. The Ebers Papyrus, dating to approximately 1550 BC in Ancient Egypt, contains references to medical treatments involving the nose. Over the centuries, surgical techniques have evolved and improved, allowing modern surgeons to reshape and reconstruct the nasal structures with remarkable precision.
At Clinic Olymp, rhinoplasty procedures are performed by Dr Predrag Matejin, a surgeon with decades of experience and a keen eye for identifying the shape and size of the nose that best complements each patient’s facial anatomy.
Preparation: Understanding Your Expectations
Achieving a successful result requires clear communication and mutual understanding between the patient and the surgeon. Every aspect of the planned procedure should be carefully discussed beforehand.
Although it does not happen often, a patient’s desired outcome may sometimes differ from what the surgeon considers medically appropriate or realistically achievable. We believe it is essential that expectations are aligned with the possibilities and limitations of surgery.
A positive attitude and realistic expectations can contribute significantly to overall patient satisfaction. During the initial consultation, the surgeon discusses your reasons for considering surgery, evaluates the structure of your nose and face, and performs a clinical examination before developing a personalised surgical plan.
Not every nose shape suits every face. The desired result must complement your facial proportions, as the nose is one of the most distinctive features of your appearance.
Before surgery, several routine but important medical questions must also be addressed. Patients visiting Clinic Olymp are asked to complete a medical questionnaire before their initial consultation.
The questionnaire includes information about previous illnesses, earlier surgical procedures, lifestyle habits such as smoking and alcohol consumption, and any medications currently being taken. Particular attention is given to blood-thinning medications, hormonal treatments and contraceptives.
To ensure thorough preparation and minimise potential risks, all patients also undergo a preoperative assessment and consultation with an anaesthesiologist.
Surgical Technique: Modern Methods for Optimal Results
Nose surgery, or (septo)rhinoplasty, is considered one of the most technically demanding and delicate procedures in aesthetic and reconstructive surgery.
Dr Predrag Matejin has performed hundreds of rhinoplasty procedures, drawing on his extensive surgical experience to achieve results tailored to each patient’s individual facial features.
In many rhinoplasty procedures, incisions are made inside the nostrils, leaving no visible external scars. The nasal bones and cartilage are carefully reshaped using specialised surgical instruments.
Depending on the anatomy and the desired correction, cartilage or other structural tissue may be repositioned or reshaped to achieve the appropriate nasal contour, proportions and support.
For certain minor aesthetic irregularities, non-surgical nose correction using hyaluronic acid or calcium hydroxylapatite-based fillers, such as Crystalys, may also be considered. However, these treatments have specific limitations and risks and are not suitable for every patient.
Following a thorough examination and assessment, the surgeon will discuss the available options with you and recommend the most appropriate treatment approach.

Recovery and Precautions
During the first one to two days following surgery, patients are generally advised to eat soft foods, sleep with their head slightly elevated and limit unnecessary talking.
A protective nasal splint is usually worn for 7, 10 or 14 days, depending on the procedure and the surgeon’s recommendations.
Bruising and swelling around the eyes are common after rhinoplasty and typically improve within 7 to 10 days. Once appropriate, any remaining bruising may be concealed with makeup.
Many patients can return to their usual social activities within approximately 7 to 14 days, depending on the extent of surgery and their individual recovery.
Although improvements in nasal appearance become noticeable earlier, the final result may take approximately 6 to 12 months to develop as swelling gradually subsides. In some cases, complete healing may take longer.
The Clinic Olymp team will provide detailed postoperative instructions, including guidance on nasal care and any specific massage techniques recommended by your surgeon, to support a safe recovery and the best possible outcome.
