Facelift Surgery (Face Lifting)

About Facelift Surgery (Face Lifting)

When the image we have of ourselves no longer matches the reflection we see in the mirror. When we don’t want to look different, just better. When our face has lost its freshness and we look tired or sleepy – that may be the right time to consider a facelift.

Facelift surgery is one of the most common facial rejuvenation procedures. Its aim is to reduce the appearance of tiredness by removing excess skin and tightening the deeper supporting structures of the face.

After a facelift, the face should appear harmonious and rejuvenated, while preserving natural facial expressions and individual character.

The goal is a natural-looking result – a face that does not look surgically altered, but refreshed and revitalised. Better, not different.

Preparation: In the Hands of an Experienced Specialist

Extensive experience and a thorough understanding of each patient’s wishes are qualities you will experience during your initial free consultation and examination.

During this appointment, you will receive answers to your questions and all the information you need to feel confident, informed and comfortable about your decision.

Our shared goal is to achieve a younger-looking, more harmonious and refreshed facial appearance – one that helps restore your confidence.

Surgical Technique

We use modern surgical techniques.

A face and neck lift is performed under general anaesthesia and usually takes between 2 and 4 hours, depending on whether the procedure involves the entire face and neck or only specific areas.

What does this mean? The surgery may involve lifting the entire face and neck, the lower third of the face, the forehead or the neck alone.

It is also important to note that facelift surgery is frequently combined with other procedures, such as upper and lower eyelid surgery, liposuction of the double chin or facial fat transfer (lipofilling) using the patient’s own fat tissue. These combined procedures may help achieve more comprehensive facial rejuvenation and improved overall harmony.

One of the key principles of facelift surgery is tightening and supporting the deeper facial structures rather than simply pulling the skin.

Our two-layer biodynamic facelift technique works on two tissue layers and in two directions. The deeper supporting structures of the cheeks and neck are repositioned and tightened, while the skin is carefully released and excess tissue removed without excessive tension.

This approach aims to achieve a natural-looking result while preserving facial expressions.

Incisions are carefully positioned around, behind and above the ears, as well as along the hairline, to make postoperative scars as discreet as possible.

In visible areas, fine, atraumatic sutures are used along the incision lines. Special suturing techniques are designed to minimise trauma to the skin and help scars heal as thin, pale lines that blend with natural skin creases.

When necessary, a small incision several centimetres long may also be made beneath the chin to remove excess fat from the central neck area and tighten the underlying neck muscles.

For selected patients between approximately 35 and 50 years of age, our specialised MIDI Facelift technique may be an option. This approach involves shorter incisions and may allow a faster postoperative recovery compared with more extensive facelift procedures.

Recovery and Precautions

Long-lasting facial rejuvenation

Recovery time following facelift surgery depends on the extent of the procedure. To reduce the risk of complications and support postoperative healing, it is important to follow your surgeon’s instructions carefully.

Initial improvements may become visible relatively soon after surgery, although swelling and bruising can temporarily affect the appearance of the face.

The first sutures are generally removed after approximately 7 days, and many patients can return to their usual social activities within 7 to 14 days, depending on their individual recovery.

Strenuous physical activities should generally be avoided for 4 to 6 weeks following surgery, or until your surgeon advises that it is safe to resume them.

During this period, direct sun exposure should be avoided, and the use of a high-SPF sunscreen is strongly recommended.

Scars are usually positioned discreetly within the hairline and around or behind the ears, where they are less noticeable.

How long do facelift results last?

Facelift surgery can provide long-lasting improvements, but it cannot stop the natural ageing process.

The biological clock can be turned back, but it cannot be stopped. Your face will continue to age naturally, although the improvements achieved through surgery may remain noticeable for many years.

For example, if a facelift gives you a noticeably more youthful appearance at the age of 60, you will continue to age from that improved starting point. The procedure does not permanently preserve the appearance of a particular age, but its rejuvenating effects can be long-lasting.
