Ear Surgery (Otoplasty)

About Ear Surgery (Otoplasty)

Ear correction surgery, also known as otoplasty, is one of the most commonly performed procedures in aesthetic surgery. Various irregularities can affect the shape, size and position of the ears, including the outer ear and earlobes.

The procedure typically involves making a 4–5 cm incision along the lower back portion of the ear. The surgeon then accesses and reshapes the cartilage, removing excess tissue when necessary and repositioning the ear to achieve the desired appearance.

The incision is then carefully closed behind the ear, leaving a discreet scar that is generally difficult to notice.

To help prevent potential psychological discomfort associated with prominent ears, otoplasty may be considered before puberty. The procedure can be performed on children from approximately 6–7 years of age, depending on individual development and medical assessment.

However, ear correction surgery is equally suitable for adults. Age does not necessarily reduce the effectiveness of the procedure, and many of our adult patients have achieved excellent results with otoplasty.

Preparation: Free Consultation

During your initial free examination and consultation, our surgical team will provide all the information you need about the procedure.

We will carefully explain the preparation, surgical process and postoperative recovery, answer your questions and help you feel informed and confident about your decision.

Surgical Technique

Our surgeons perform prominent ear correction using the Chong-Chet technique, which is designed to provide stable, long-lasting results.

This technique aims to maintain the ears in their corrected position while achieving a natural and aesthetically balanced appearance. It also allows precise cartilage reshaping with the goal of minimising tissue trauma and surgical risks.

The procedure involves making an incision approximately 4–5 cm long along the lower back portion of the ear.

The underlying cartilage is then carefully accessed and reshaped. Any excess cartilage may be removed when necessary, and the ear is repositioned closer to the head or adjusted to achieve the desired contour.

Finally, the incision is closed with sutures behind the ear, where the resulting scar is usually well concealed.

Recovery and Precautions

A Quick Return to Your Social Activities!

During the first week after surgery, patients are generally required to wear an elastic head bandage to support the ears in their new position.

For the following week, an elastic headband is typically recommended to provide additional protection during healing.

Most patients can return to their usual social activities relatively quickly after surgery, depending on their individual recovery.

Sports and strenuous physical activities should be avoided for several weeks to prevent injury or unnecessary pressure on the ears.

Temporary swelling, mild discomfort and minor postoperative bleeding may occur. More significant complications, including infection, are uncommon but remain possible.

If you are exposed to strong sunlight, we recommend applying a high-SPF sunscreen to help protect healing scars and reduce the risk of postoperative hyperpigmentation.

Following your surgeon’s postoperative instructions is essential for proper healing and achieving the best possible results.
