Breast Asymmetry Correction
Perfect breast symmetry is extremely rare. In some women, differences in breast size, shape, or position are minimal and barely noticeable, while in others, breast asymmetry can be more pronounced, causing both aesthetic concerns and physical discomfort.
In such cases, breast asymmetry correction surgery can help improve the balance, proportions, and overall appearance of the breasts.
Although complete symmetry cannot be guaranteed, the procedure can significantly reduce visible differences between the breasts and create a more harmonious, natural-looking result.
Preparation: What Should You Know Before Surgery?
During your initial free consultation with Dr Predrag Matejin and Dr Dario Lizatović, you will receive detailed information about the procedure and have the opportunity to discuss your expectations and ask any questions.
Before breast asymmetry correction surgery, it is important to provide accurate information about your current health, medical history, and any medications or supplements you are taking.
Your surgeon may recommend a breast ultrasound or mammogram before surgery, depending on your age, medical history, and clinical findings.
Several surgical approaches can be used to correct breast asymmetry. The most appropriate technique depends on the degree of difference between the breasts, their shape, and the underlying anatomical characteristics.
Common approaches to breast asymmetry correction include:
- One breast is smaller: If one breast is underdeveloped while the other has the desired size and shape, the smaller breast may be augmented with an implant.
- One breast is larger: If one breast is significantly larger than the other, breast reduction surgery may be performed on the larger breast.
- Both breasts are excessively large but uneven: Both breasts may be reduced by different amounts to achieve improved symmetry and proportions.
- Both breasts are underdeveloped and asymmetrical: Breast augmentation may be performed on both sides, using different implant sizes or profiles to compensate for the existing differences.
- One breast is too large and the other too small: A combination of breast reduction and breast augmentation may be recommended to create a more balanced appearance.
Surgical Technique: Modern Approaches to Breast Symmetry
Breast asymmetry correction surgery typically takes approximately 2 to 4 hours and is performed under general anesthesia.
The surgical technique is selected according to the degree and type of asymmetry. Correction may involve breast implants, breast reduction, breast lifting, or a combination of procedures.
When breast implants are used, they are commonly inserted through an incision along the natural crease beneath the breast, known as the inframammary fold.
If breast reduction is also required, the surgeon may use an anchor-shaped incision extending around the areola, vertically toward the breast crease, and horizontally along the inframammary fold.
Excess glandular tissue, fat, and skin are carefully removed to reshape the breast and improve its proportions.
When necessary, the nipple and areola are repositioned to achieve a more balanced and natural breast appearance.

Breast Asymmetry Correction
At the end of the procedure, the incisions are carefully closed using intradermal sutures, with attention to minimizing visible scarring wherever possible.
Recovery and Precautions
The length of your postoperative stay at Clinic Olymp depends on the type and extent of the surgical procedure performed.
Once your condition is stable, you will be discharged with detailed instructions for home recovery, wound care, medication, and activity restrictions.
Follow-up appointments are scheduled to monitor healing, with the first examination typically taking place 3 to 5 days after surgery.
If non-absorbable sutures are used, they are generally removed approximately 10 to 14 days after the procedure.
Patients are usually advised to wear a specialized supportive or compression bra for approximately 4 to 6 weeks following surgery.
The time required to return to daily activities, work, and sports depends on the complexity of the procedure and your individual recovery.
Temporary swelling, bruising, discomfort, and changes in breast or nipple sensation may occur during the healing process.
As with any surgical procedure, breast asymmetry correction carries potential risks, including infection, bleeding, delayed wound healing, scarring, and residual asymmetry.
Our medical team will provide personalized postoperative recommendations and guide you throughout your recovery.
