Hand Rejuvenation with Hyaluronic Acid Fillers or Your Own Fat Tissue
Hand rejuvenation is becoming an increasingly popular aesthetic treatment thanks to its relatively straightforward procedures, manageable recovery periods, and noticeable results.
The longevity of the results depends on several factors, including the treatment method, your metabolism, overall health, and lifestyle habits. Before undergoing a procedure, we recommend a detailed consultation with our doctor to determine which technique is best suited to your individual needs.
At Clinic Olymp, we offer two methods of hand rejuvenation:
- Hand Rejuvenation with Hyaluronic Acid Dermal Fillers
- Hand Rejuvenation with Your Own Fat Tissue (Fat Transfer)
If you are unsure which method to choose, we invite you to schedule a free consultation. You can book your appointment by calling +381 21 472 7000.
Preparation: What Should You Know Before Treatment?
Although hand rejuvenation procedures are generally straightforward and relatively quick, a thorough skin assessment and medical consultation are essential for achieving appropriate results.
During your free consultation, our doctor will carefully examine the skin on your hands, explain each stage of the procedure, answer your questions, and work with you to determine the appropriate amount of dermal filler or fat tissue required.
It is important to discuss your expectations and treatment goals, as well as inform your doctor about your current health, previous procedures, medications, and any allergies.
If you choose hand rejuvenation with your own fat tissue, we recommend stopping smoking several weeks before the procedure, as smoking can negatively affect healing and fat survival.
You may also be advised to avoid certain medications, such as aspirin and other products containing acetylsalicylic acid, depending on your medical history. Do not stop taking prescribed medications without consulting your doctor.
Proper hydration is also important before the procedure. On the day of treatment, you may be advised to avoid applying moisturizing lotions or other skincare products to the treatment areas.

Hand Rejuvenation Methods
Hand Rejuvenation with Hyaluronic Acid Fillers
Hand rejuvenation with dermal fillers is a minimally invasive procedure designed to restore lost volume, reduce the appearance of wrinkles, and make prominent veins and tendons less noticeable.
As we age, the skin gradually loses collagen, elasticity, and hyaluronic acid, a naturally occurring substance that helps retain moisture and maintain skin volume.
Hyaluronic acid dermal fillers can help replenish lost volume beneath the skin, improving the appearance of wrinkles and creating smoother, fuller-looking hands.
For patients who wish to maintain their results, repeat treatments may be recommended approximately every 6 to 12 months, depending on the product used and individual response.
Treatment Technique: Hand Rejuvenation as a Lunchtime Procedure
The treatment usually takes approximately 30 minutes, and initial results are visible immediately.
Because the procedure is relatively quick and generally requires little downtime, it is sometimes referred to as a “lunchtime treatment.”
Before the injections, your doctor may apply a topical anesthetic cream to your hands to minimize discomfort.
After approximately 15 minutes, the treatment begins.
The filler is carefully injected into the back of the hands using a cannula or an appropriate injection technique. The aim is to restore volume beneath the skin, reducing the visibility of tendons and blood vessels.
The doctor takes care to avoid important anatomical structures and minimize the risk of injury to blood vessels and surrounding tissues.
Following the injections, the treated areas may be gently massaged by the doctor to help distribute the filler evenly and achieve a smooth, natural-looking result.
Recovery and Precautions: Return to Your Daily Activities
Most patients can return to their usual daily activities shortly after treatment.
Your doctor may recommend gentle massage of the treated areas if appropriate for the filler used. Do not massage the injection sites unless specifically instructed.
For approximately one week, you may be advised to avoid other aesthetic, cosmetic, or laser treatments on your hands, as well as prolonged sun exposure, tanning beds, and saunas.
Mild redness, swelling, tenderness, or bruising may occur around the injection sites. These effects usually improve within a few days, although recovery times vary.
As with any injectable filler procedure, complications are possible, including infection, lumps, asymmetry, and rare vascular complications.
Contact your doctor promptly if you experience severe or increasing pain, unusual skin discoloration, or other concerning symptoms.
Hand Rejuvenation with Your Own Fat Tissue
Hand rejuvenation with autologous fat transfer, also known as lipofilling, is a procedure designed to restore lost volume and improve the appearance of aging hands using the patient’s own fat tissue.
As we age, the layer of fat beneath the skin on the back of our hands becomes thinner, making veins, tendons, and other underlying structures more visible.
By carefully transferring fat from another area of the body, the surgeon can restore volume and create a fuller, smoother appearance.
Fat tissue also contains various cells involved in tissue maintenance and repair. However, the primary established benefit of hand lipofilling is volume restoration, and additional regenerative effects should not be considered guaranteed.
One of the potential advantages of this procedure is that a portion of the transferred fat may survive long-term, providing lasting improvement in hand volume and contours.
Treatment Technique: How Does Fat Transfer Rejuvenate the Hands?
The fat harvesting and transfer procedure typically takes up to one hour, depending on the extent of treatment.
It may be performed under local anesthesia with intravenous sedation, depending on the treatment plan and medical assessment.
Fat tissue is commonly harvested from the inner thighs using specialized liposuction cannulas.
The collected fat is then carefully processed to prepare it for transfer.
The surgeon makes several small entry points, approximately 1 mm in size, on the back of the hands.
Using fine cannulas, small amounts of prepared fat are injected into the subcutaneous tissue.
The fat is distributed in thin layers to help achieve even contours and support its integration with the surrounding tissues.
Once the procedure is complete, the treated areas are cleaned and protective dressings or bandages are applied.
During the first few weeks and months after treatment, some of the transferred fat is naturally reabsorbed by the body.
The amount of fat retained varies between patients, and the final result is generally assessed after several months.
At Clinic Olymp, additional harvested fat tissue may be preserved under specialized storage conditions for potential future treatments, where medically appropriate and in accordance with applicable protocols.
If further volume enhancement is needed, an additional treatment may be considered approximately 4 to 6 months after the initial procedure.
Recovery and Precautions: Stay in Contact with Your Doctor
Following the procedure, patients can usually return home the same day, once they have recovered sufficiently from any anesthesia or sedation.
Your hands may be covered with soft protective bandages.
During the first 48 hours, your doctor may recommend carefully applying cold compresses over the bandages to help reduce swelling, while avoiding excessive pressure on the transferred fat.
The bandages are usually removed after a few days, according to your surgeon’s instructions.
Depending on the extent of the procedure, you may be able to resume normal daily activities within approximately two weeks.
Some swelling and tenderness of the hands are expected during the initial recovery period.
Bruising and swelling may also develop at the area where the fat was harvested.
These symptoms usually improve over approximately two weeks, although complete recovery varies depending on your overall health, skin condition, and individual healing response.
Potential complications include infection, bleeding, asymmetry, contour irregularities, fat necrosis, and unpredictable fat retention. Rare but serious vascular complications are also possible.
Our medical team will provide detailed postoperative instructions and remain available to answer your questions throughout recovery.
