Labia Reduction (Labiaplasty)

Labiaplasty – Labia Reduction Surgery

Labiaplasty, also known as labia reduction surgery, is a surgical procedure designed to reduce or reshape the labia to achieve the desired appearance or address functional concerns.

Variations in the size, shape, or symmetry of the labia may be present from birth or develop following childbirth, injury, or the natural aging process.

In addition to aesthetic concerns that may affect self-confidence, enlarged or asymmetrical labia can sometimes cause physical discomfort, including irritation, friction, difficulty maintaining personal hygiene, discomfort when wearing tight clothing, and pain during sexual intercourse, sports, or other physical activities.

Preparation: What Should You Know Before Labiaplasty?

Before undergoing labiaplasty, you will have a free consultation with one of our surgeons. During this appointment, you will discuss your personal goals, expectations, medical history, current health, and any previous surgical procedures.

Our experienced specialists will answer your questions and explain the available surgical options, expected results, potential risks, and recovery process.

Routine preoperative examinations may be required to ensure that you are suitable for surgery.

You may also be advised to temporarily discontinue certain medications that increase the risk of bleeding, such as aspirin-containing products. However, you should never stop taking prescribed medication without consulting your doctor.

Surgical Technique: A Precise and Minimally Invasive Procedure

Labiaplasty typically takes approximately one hour and is most commonly performed under local anesthesia. In some cases, total intravenous anesthesia may be recommended, depending on the patient’s preferences and medical circumstances.

During the procedure, excess tissue is carefully removed from the labia minora (inner labia), which are then reshaped according to the surgical plan discussed during the consultation.

At Clinic Olymp, our surgeons use radiofrequency surgical technology to remove excess labial tissue. This technique allows precise tissue removal and may help minimize bleeding during the procedure.

After the tissue has been reshaped, the edges are carefully closed with sutures.

Labiaplasty can be performed on one or both sides of the labia minora to improve symmetry while maintaining a natural appearance.

In selected cases, reduction of the labia majora (outer labia) may also be performed during the same procedure.

Recovery and Precautions After Labiaplasty

Labiaplasty is generally performed as an outpatient procedure, allowing patients to return home the same day after a short period of medical observation.

Recovery varies between individuals, but the initial healing period typically lasts several weeks, with substantial recovery expected within approximately one month.

During the first days following surgery, mild to moderate pain, discomfort, burning sensations, swelling, bruising, and light bleeding or spotting may occur.

These symptoms generally improve gradually over the following weeks.

Patients are advised to rest for the first few days after surgery and gradually resume normal daily activities as comfort allows.

Proper postoperative hygiene and wound care are essential. Your surgeon may recommend specific cleansing or antiseptic products, depending on your individual needs.

Strenuous physical activity, sports, and sexual intercourse should generally be avoided for at least 4 weeks after surgery. Some patients may need to wait 4 to 6 weeks or longer, depending on healing and their surgeon’s recommendations.

Although complications are uncommon, possible risks include bleeding, infection, wound separation, scarring, changes in sensation, asymmetry, and dissatisfaction with the final result.

Following your surgeon’s postoperative instructions and attending scheduled follow-up appointments can help reduce the risk of complications and support proper healing.
