Lip Surgery and Aesthetic Enhancement
The lips play an important role in overall facial appearance. Their aesthetic significance is particularly important to many women, as full, symmetrical and beautifully shaped lips are often associated with femininity and youthfulness.
If you are considering lip augmentation or reshaping, several treatment options are available. These include minimally invasive surgical techniques such as lip augmentation using your own fat tissue and lip lift surgery, as well as increasingly popular non-surgical treatments using hyaluronic acid dermal fillers.
Preparing for Lip Surgery
During your free consultation, our doctor will perform the necessary examinations, assess the available treatment options and discuss your wishes and expectations.
Your overall health will also be evaluated to determine which surgical technique or non-surgical treatment is most suitable for achieving your desired results.
Once a treatment plan has been agreed upon, you will receive detailed instructions regarding preoperative preparation, which may include laboratory tests and, when necessary, an examination by an internal medicine specialist.
Surgical Techniques: Tailored to Your Individual Needs
Lip Augmentation with Your Own Fat Tissue (Fat Grafting)
Lip augmentation using your own fat tissue is a procedure designed to create fuller, more defined and naturally shaped lips while maintaining overall facial harmony.
The procedure begins with the extraction of fat tissue through liposuction, most commonly from the inner thighs.
The harvested fat is then carefully processed and filtered to prepare it for transplantation. The purified fat is subsequently injected into the lips using specialised cannulas.
This technique can provide long-lasting results, although the final outcome depends on how much of the transferred fat survives.
One advantage of this method is that it uses the patient’s own tissue, a process known as autologous fat transfer. This avoids the introduction of synthetic implants and reduces the risk of foreign-body reactions, although other surgical risks remain possible.
Over time, some of the transferred fat may be naturally reabsorbed by the body. In some cases, approximately 30% of the injected fat may be reabsorbed, although the amount varies between patients.
For this reason, our surgeon may harvest slightly more fat than is required for the initial lip augmentation procedure.
Any remaining processed fat may be stored under specialised conditions for 6–8 months, potentially allowing an additional correction or lip volume enhancement if necessary, subject to clinical suitability and applicable storage protocols.
Upper Lip Lift Surgery
A lip lift is a surgical procedure designed to reshape the upper lip by reducing the distance between the base of the nose and the vermilion border (the coloured portion of the lip).
By shortening this distance, the upper lip can appear fuller, more defined and more youthful without necessarily increasing its volume.
This procedure may be suitable for patients with a long or thin upper lip, a poorly defined Cupid’s bow, mild lip asymmetry or certain changes in lip position associated with ageing.
Upper lip lift surgery is most commonly performed under local anaesthesia.
A small incision is made just beneath the nostrils, and a carefully measured strip of skin is removed from the area between the nose and upper lip. The remaining tissue is then repositioned to elevate the upper lip.
Sutures are generally removed approximately 7–10 days after surgery.
The resulting scar is usually positioned along the natural contours beneath the nostrils, where it becomes less noticeable as healing progresses.
Recovery and Precautions
Recovery following lip surgery varies from patient to patient and depends on the type of procedure performed, the extent of treatment and your overall health.
Most patients experience a relatively short initial recovery period, although temporary swelling, bruising and mild discomfort may occur.
During your free consultation, our surgeon will explain the expected recovery process and provide personalised postoperative instructions and precautions.
The Clinic Olymp team will be available to support you throughout every stage of your treatment, from the initial consultation to postoperative care.
