Chin Correction

About Chin Surgery

Three key points help define the facial profile: the root of the nose, the upper jaw just below the nose, and the crease between the lower lip and the chin. According to the classical aesthetic principles associated with Leonardo da Vinci, the line connecting these points should form a convex profile. When these proportions differ, the face may appear less balanced.

This is why the shape and position of the chin can have a significant influence on overall facial harmony.

Chin surgery, also known as mentoplasty, can be performed to reduce a prominent chin or enhance a recessed one. By changing the size and shape of the chin, surgery can significantly improve the facial profile, in some cases to a degree comparable to rhinoplasty.

Preparation: Understanding Your Expectations

To help ensure that your chin surgery meets your expectations, a detailed consultation and examination are essential.

During the initial appointment, clinical photographs may be taken and analysed to assess facial proportions and plan the desired changes.

Our surgeons will answer your questions and explain the steps involved in the procedure. Your goals must be carefully considered alongside the surgeon’s professional assessment. Every face is unique and requires an individualised approach.

Several former beauty pageant winners have also chosen Dr Dimitrije Panfilov for chin correction.

Surgical Technique: Precise and Tailored to Your Needs

For a mildly prominent chin, the procedure may involve removing a small amount of excess bone to achieve a more balanced profile.

More pronounced deformities may require repositioning of the upper or lower jaw. Such procedures involve a more complex treatment plan and may require the expertise of a maxillofacial surgeon in addition to a plastic surgeon.

For a recessed chin, one option is to enhance its projection using an appropriately selected silicone implant.

In selected cases involving minor contour irregularities or a mildly recessed chin, injectable dermal fillers may also be considered as a non-surgical alternative.

The most suitable approach depends on your facial anatomy, the degree of correction required and your desired outcome.

Recovery and Precautions

Many patients can return home a few hours after the procedure, depending on the type of surgery and their postoperative condition.

During the first few days, a soft or liquid diet may be recommended, particularly when surgery involves the oral cavity or jaw. Strenuous physical activities should be avoided during the initial recovery period.

Many patients can return to their usual social activities within approximately 7–10 days, although recovery varies depending on the procedure performed.

Swelling and bruising are expected after surgery and generally improve over several days, although some swelling may persist for longer.

As with any surgical procedure, complications are possible. Following your surgeon’s instructions and attending scheduled follow-up appointments are important for safe recovery.
