Small surgical interventions.

Small surgical procedures

Small surgical procedures on the skin are generally done under local anesthesia and include intervention on superficial growths on the skin such as warts, fibromas, atheromas, lipomas and moles. These changes on the skin are usually benign, but nevertheless each removed part is sent for histopathological analysis. Special attention is paid to moles that change color, as well as moles of irregular shape and size. If it is an intervention on a smaller area of the skin-the wound is sewn directly, and if the area is larger-the defects are closed by taking local lobes on the side or free skin grafts.

What changes can be removed with small surgical procedures?

Atheroma

Atheroma is a benign cystic skin change that occurs due to clogging of the sebaceous gland's drainage canal. It most commonly occurs on the head, neck, back, and behind the earlobe. It presents clinically as a subcutaneous, clearly limited, elastic change that is usually painless, except in the case of inflammation.

If an infection occurs, the atheroma can become painful, red, and accompanied by swelling. Definitive treatment involves surgical removal of the cyst along with its capsule, which reduces the risk of recurrence.

Fibromas

Fibromas are benign changes in the origin of connective tissue. They most often occur as small, soft or firmer growths on the skin, skin color, or slightly pigmented. They can occur on the neck, armpits, groin, or other regions where skin friction occurs.

In most cases, they are not a health problem, but are removed for aesthetic reasons or if they are susceptible to irritation. Removal is done by a simple surgical or radiofrequency route, depending on the size and localization of the change.

Lipomi

Lipoma is a benign tumor of adipose tissue. It usually manifests as a soft, mobile, painless subcutaneous change that grows slowly. It most commonly occurs on the trunk, shoulders, upper arms and thighs.

Although lipomas are benign and rarely become malignant, surgical removal is recommended if they grow, cause discomfort, pain, or aesthetic impairment. Very often lipoma exceeds the treatment options under local anesthesia, so it is important to remove it in time, for easier treatment and recovery.

Hygromes

A hygroma, also known as a cyst ganglion, is a benign cystic change filled with gelatinous fluid. It most often occurs in the area of the wrist or hand, less often in the area of the foot.

It occurs as a result of degenerative changes in the joint capsule or tendon sheaths. It is usually painless, but its size can cause mechanical problems and occasionally cause pain.

It may be painless, but in some patients it causes discomfort, pain, or reduced mobility. Therapy involves monitoring or surgical removal, depending on the symptoms and the magnitude of the change.

Moles (Nevus

Moles are pigment changes in the skin that result from the proliferation of melanocytes. Most nevus are benign and stable throughout life. They may be flat or elevated, of lighter or darker pigmentation.

It is important to monitor changes in the size, shape, color and borders of moles. Any asymmetry, irregular edges, discoloration, or bleeding requires a dermatological examination. Removal is recommended for suspicious changes, aesthetic reasons, or repeated irritation.

Skin tumors

Basaliomas

Basal cell carcinoma is the most common malignant tumor of the skin. It arises from the basal cells of the epidermis and most commonly occurs in sun-exposed regions, such as the face and neck. It grows slowly and rarely metastasizes, but can locally invasive affect surrounding tissues. Treatment involves surgical removal with adequate safety margins.

Planocellular carcinoma

Planocellular carcinoma arises from squamous cells of the epidermis. It can occur on skin exposed to chronic UV radiation, but also on sites of chronic wounds or scars. Compared to basalioma, it has a higher potential for metastasis, which is why timely diagnosis and surgical treatment is crucial.

Melanoma

Melanoma is a malignant tumor of melanocytes and is the most aggressive form of skin cancer. It can arise de novo or from an existing mole. It is characterized by rapid growth and potential for early metastasis. Early detection and surgical removal in the initial stage significantly improve prognosis.

Carpal tunnel syndrome

Carpal tunnel syndrome is caused by pressure on the median nerve in the carpal duct of the wrist. Symptoms include tingling, tingling, pain and weakness in the hand and fingers (especially the first 3 fingers).

In the initial stages, treatment can be conservative, with the use of orthotics and physical therapy. In cases of pronounced or prolonged symptoms, surgical decompression of the nerve is recommended, thereby reducing pressure and relieving the discomfort.

Trigger finger

Trigger finger (stenosing tenosynovitis) is a condition in which a tendon or its sheath thickens, making it difficult to slide through the tendon sheath. The finger may be "stuck" in a bent position, with a feeling of jumping, stiffness, or pain when stretching.

Treatment at the initial stage can be non-surgical. In cases where symptoms persist or worsen, a minor surgical procedure is used to release the tendon and restore full mobility of the finger.

Preparation for the procedure

Preparation for the procedure depends on several factors. At free consultations, the doctor will perform the necessary examinations, talk to you about your wishes and expectations from the procedure, check your health condition and, in relation to the obtained information, propose an operative method or treatment, all in accordance with the indication. Regardless of the type of procedure that is performed-it is not recommended to shower on this day with preparations that moisturize the skin.

Operation: depends on the indication.

The surgical technique depends on the type of procedure and the treated changes in the skin. The doctor will provide you with more detailed information at the first free consultation. Since these are minor surgical procedures, they are performed quickly and do not require long-term stay in the clinic. The process of full recovery usually takes no more than a few days.

Especially important-examination (and removal) of "suspicious" moles:

Moles are pigmented changes in the skin that occur due to the accumulation of melanocytes (cells that produce the natural pigment melanin). They may be congenital or acquired. Moles are basically benign, harmless changes, but if they change size, color and shape improperly and rapidly, or begin to bleed, they can be a sign that a process that is no longer benign has begun to develop.

Timely examination in such cases is a key step towards the eventual diagnosis of malignant melanoma, which is an aggressive form of tumor, but after timely diagnosis it is in a large percentage curable. Therefore, it is very important to contact us for an examination if you notice that the mole changes its usual color, shape or size, and if it has an irregular edge, itching, bleeding or peeling.

With a detailed clinical examination (which includes a dermoscope examination), our surgeons will determine the exact indication and give advice on the potential removal of moles. After removal-the change is, as a rule, sent for histopathological analysis, in order to obtain definitive confirmation of the diagnosis and decide on the further course of treatment.

Recovery and precautions

Recovery depends both on the surgical method and the procedure being performed, as well as on your health condition. Our surgeons will give you advice regarding postoperative recovery and precautions. The Olymp clinic staff will be at your disposal both during the procedure itself and in the time after it.
